:: RULES ::

We have agreed to:
(1) all players must acknowledge that there is an absolute prohibition
against alcohol in the dressing rooms and the facilities. The failure to
adhere to this rule will have serious consequences, probably the elimination
of the floor time for next year;

(2) Ron Earnshaw will be in attendance throughout the games on Thursday in
order to monitor;

(3) the league executive will conduct an investigation of the events of last
Thursday and will determine what, if any, discipline is appropriate in the
circumstances. The City will be advised of the results of the
investigation. Discipline can include suspension of offending players,
carrying into next year;

(4) given that breach of the rules associated with the lease of the floor
seriously jeopardizes the league, the breach of these rules will be
considered a breach of league rules leading to disciplinary action in
future;

(5) each of the team captains will have discussions with the teams prior to
the games on Thursday to make sure there is no misunderstanding on the
above.


ONTARIO MASTERS LACROSSE RULES

THE TEAM
1. All Masters players must attain their 35th birthday in the year they compete.
2. All junior Masters players must attain their 23rd birthday in the year they compete.
3. Maximum number of dressed players per team is 25 per game.
4. Players may not be registered in any other division or category of Box Lacrosse in Canada or the U.S.A.
5. All players must be registered on OLA cards.
6. To play in the Masters Provincial Championships, a player must have competed in at least one Masters Tournament, outside his home area, prior to the Provincials. An eligible player may play for any appropriate age teamat the Provincials.
7. A player may play for more than one team during the season but only one team per tournament, goal tenders are excepted.

THE GAME AND EQUIPMENT
1. The game will be a maximum of 3 -15 minute periods, with a 3 minute rest between periods. Play will be straight time, except for the last 5 minutes of the 3rd period which will be stop time. Any overtime will continue as stop time.
2. In the event of a tie in regulation time, there will be a sudden victory 10 minute overtime period. If no goal is scored, there will be a 5 player shoot-out.
3. There will be a 30 second shot clock rule applied throughout the game, (INCLUDING ANY SHORTHANDED SITUATIONS)
4. There will be a 5 second possession ruel applied. This ruel is waved if player receives the ball on a breakaway with only the goaltender to beat.
5. All players must wear the same coloured sweatersand shorts. (T-shirts are acceptable as sweaters)
6. Helmets and gloves are mandatory. (CSA APPROVED)
7. All goaltender equipment worn above the waist (except the helmet) must be fully covered by the sweater. (ie forearm pads) Sweaters must conformto the body of the goaltender (no extra material under the arm) and not to exceed past the inseam when standing up.

PENALTIES AND VIOLATIONS
1. The first player to a loose ball along the boards is awarded possession.
2. The ball carrier advancing towards the opposing net may not pass two or more defensive players who are attempting to check the ball carrier. Loss of possession.
3. No team may use a ZONE DEFENCE when teams are at even strength. First time is a warning. Any subsequent ZONE DEFENSE will result in a Bench Minor Penalty to the Defenseive team.
4. A team on a powerplay may shoot through the lanes of a zone defense.
5. Team in possession retains possession for restart after stoppage for any injury.
6. Face-offs: only the players facing off may step into either of the face-off circles before the ball leaves the LARGE circle, or is in possession of a player. Face-off players may not kick, hit, hold, or step on the stick of an opponent. Face-off players may not PIN the ball in either circle. Non-face-off players may reach into the circles for the ball, but must not play the stick of either face-off player.
7. After a penalty to one player, play shall resume with the non-offending team having possession at center.
8. No deliberate hard shots are to be directed through a crowd. Loss of possession. Players are encouraged to go around an opponent before shooting.
9. Any offensive player hitting a defensive player with the ball on a shot towards the goal will be assessed a 2 minute minor penalty.
10. A Player moving towards the net must be a strp around the defender before attempting the shot and must have a clear shooting lave to the net. If shooter is stationary they must be a body length away from the defensive player and must have a clear shooting lane to the net.
11. There is absolutely NO DELIBERATE STICK OR BODY CONTACT.
i) Offensive or Defensive Picks which result in heavy contact.
ii) Defensive player moving his stick to strike an opponent's stick.
iii) Defensive player bumping opponent on the way to the net or pushing him with his hands. (With defensive player hands on or off the stick)
***These are examples only, not all inclusive. All deliberate contact from
anywhere on the floor will be penalized***
12. An Interference Penalty will be assessed to any player who deliberately holds his stick in the face of his opponent.
13. In the event of a Follow-Through Penalty on a shot, any goal scored WILL NOT count.
14. Any Unsportsmanship Penalty will result in a Penalty Shot. Penalized player does not go to the penalty box, but the penalty does count towards the 3 penalty expulsion rule. Play will restart with possession to non offending team at center if no goal scored.
15. No team will be more than one player short as a result of penalties. Any subsequent Penalties shall result in Penalty Shots being awarded to the non-offending team. I the second penalty is a Major Penalty, 2 shots will be taken. The second penalty is recognized when the whistle blows to stop any delayed penalty. Play will restart with possession to non offending team at center if no goal scored.
16. Any penalties on the ball carrier during a breakaway shall result in a Penalty Shot.
17. any player receiving 3 penalties in the game will be expelled from the balance of the game.
18. any player receiving a Major Penalty will be expelled from the game PLUS the game following. If the expulsion takes place in the last game of a tournament, the suspension carries over to the next tournament. Exhibition games do not count.
19. Any player penalized for fighting and deemed to be the aggressor, will be expelled from the game, and suspended from the OLA Masters division for a period of one year from the date of the incident
20. Two different players on one team each receive a minor penalty, one penalty is served and a penalty shot is awarded to the non offending team. If no goal is scored, play is restarted with possession to the non offending team at center. If a major and a minor penalty are assessed two penalty shots are awarded, if no goal scored the non offending team is awarded the ball at center.
