A couple of exciting games last night at Kinsmen – A low scoring tie and a game that threatened to be a blowout but still ended up surprisingly close…

In the early game both teams played tight defense for most of the period, exchanging goals, Team Blair scoring and Team Dirka always tieing it up – the 1st period ending with the teams tied at 2. In the 2nd, Team Dirka kept the pressure on, scoring 2 goals and keeping Team Blair off the scoreboard – 2nd period ending with Team Dirka up 4-2. In the 3rd, Team Blair finally got on track scoring once, and then again and then again near the mid period mark to take a 1 goal lead late into the final minutes of the game. Team Dirka pressed hard, shooting, stealing the loose ball rebounds….again and again. The heavy pressure finally paid off with the tieing goal with less than 2 minutes to play. More pressure, at both ends, but another goal did not appear to be in the works. A last second Team Blair push to the net for a last second, one time shot was shut down by Team Dirka’s prevent defense…BUT at the cost of a penalty with 1.3s left on the clock – penalty shot time! BigAdam, already having scored a couple of goals in the 3rd to lift Team Blair back into the game was given the ball to win the game. A quick run to the net and a mishandled shot into the goalies’ pads/great save (either narrative can be argued) – NO GOAL! and time runs out on a well played defensive struggle – Team Blair 5 – Team Dirka 5. JustinP’s winning streak from mid June 2016 is ended at 14 games – still unbeaten in 17 games but that is a target for another week.

In the 2nd game Team Jacquie scored early and often to run up an easy 4-1 lead in the 1st period. Another Team Jacquie goal in the 2nd and the game looked to be heading towards a rout but Team Lia kept the pressure on and scored a couple to mount a bit of a comeback …BUT a possession call at the blue line with  2s on the clock allowed BrentY to dart in on Gord and score a heartbreaking buzzer beating goal with less than 1s on the clock! 2nd period ended with Team Jacquie still holding a 3 goal margin, leading 6-3. In the 3rd Team Lia kept pressing, rattling JustinP for a couple of goals, getting closer, but when things started to get tense, BrentY and the Pickle combined for some nice passing and shooting to bring Team Jacquie’s lead back up to 3. A late goal sealed the issue – Team Jacquie leaving the floor with a 10-6 victory.

Another good week of games – good turnouts for all 4 teams and exciting lacrosse for all.
