The Rust is Real – First Prep Night in the Books!

Great to see everyone back on the floor last night at North London Optimist! We had a solid turnout of 16 runners and two goalies, which is a fantastic start to the 2026 season.

The Highlights:

  • Solid Netminding: Huge thanks to Cie and our new goalie, Matt, for coming out. Between the two of them, we saw some incredible stops that made the runners work for every goal.

  • The “Wooden Floor” Factor: If you felt like your bounce was off, you weren’t alone. The wood definitely played differently than the arena floor, and it took a while for everyone to adjust.

  • It’s Always the Stick: There was plenty of “winter rust” on display. Many of us spent the night wondering why our sticks weren’t shooting like they used to – clearly, the sticks are the problem, not the six months away from the game!

  • The Cardio Reality Check: Some of us (myself included) found out quickly that running the full length of the floor is a bit different than thinking about it. I had planned on “just standing there,” but Cie had other ideas. Thanks for the push!

The Road to 4 Teams While we had a great crew out, we also received regrets from several people who couldn’t make it last night but are locked in for the season. Between the current attendance and those returning soon, we have a real possibility of expanding our team format from last year!

The Challenge: We are pushing to grow the league. If everyone brings just one friend out to the next session, we can easily hit the numbers needed for a full 4-team rotation. Let’s get those friends you’ve been talking to out on the floor.
