WEEK #16 RESULTS – 2017 REGULAR SEASON IS HISTORY

Well, that’s a wrap for RegularSeason – Summer2017 – a preview of next week’s 1st round of the playoffs.
In the 1st game, both teams has reasonable turnouts though both were missing key scorers (resting them up for the upcoming playoffs?). Team Jacquie started things off with a couple of RobA goals to get Justin a bit flustered but Team Dirka fought back with a couple of goals of their own, the 1st period ending with the teams tied 2 all. In the 2nd, Team Jacquie scored twice and allowed only one resulting in a 4-3 lead after 2. With seconds left in the period AdamC went down in pain with an apparent knee injury – never want to see injuries in recreational HL (or any) lacrosse – a couple hours in emergency and a trip to FowlerKennedy this morning was probably not on Adam’s list of desirable things to do 🙁 . In the 3rd Team Jacquie poured it on adding 3 more goals and Team Dirka was only able to reply once with a Frithy, geometrically …difficult bank shot of the goalies toe – but, not nearly enough and Team Jacquie ran out the time on their way to confirming their repeat 1st place finish in 2017 – a convincing 7-4 victory. GordC, running for a portion of the game for Team Dirka showed that his weekend face off performance was not a flash in the pan as he was able to win a few draws from the Team J’s draw man. Always good to have more face off assets available.

In the 2nd game, Team Lia was flirting with a forfeit – only 5 runners, no one on the bench – somewhat surprising based on their turnouts for most of the previous games – must be resting up the key players in preparation for their League Championship title defense. On the other hand, Team Blair had more than their usual turnout – but they were facing Justin in net – should be an interesting game regardless – and it was! Both teams scored early and then settled in to a war of attrition. Good defense and great goal tending at both ends led to the period ending with the teams deadlocked 1-1. How long could Team Lia’s 5 runners hang on with no one on the bench to spell them off? The 2nd period was a replay of the 1st, both teams scoring but not being able to pull ahead permanently. In the 3rd, Team Lia played a masterful game running just hard enough to apply pressure when needed and allowing Justin to keep Team Blair from scoring. Team Blair, despite lots of opportunities was unable to solve Justin’s goal tending and was unable to capitalize on their fatigue. A surprising flurry of quick goals put Team Lia up by 2 but BigAdam was able to get in close and put one by Justin to close the gap to single goal with time running out in the game. Lots of pressure but Justin came up with a bunch of big saves preventing any further Team Blair tallies – final score Team Lia 4 – Team Blair 2 – A text book example of how to play a short benched game for Team Lia. With the victory, Team Lia leapfrogs Team Blair into 2nd place and gets the benefit(?) of goalie choice for next week’s rematch.
