WEEK #5 RESULTS

First off, an important correction to last week’s report. It was pointed out that the report on the second game was incorrect. Team Blair had no issues with low bench numbers. They did not need the addition of Big Matt, in fact he was totally unnecessary which is why he left after the 2nd period. Blair with 6 goals and Daryl with 3 would have been more than enough to inflict another loss on Team Jacquie. Probably the goalie switch also had no bearing on the outcome (its always the scorers and never the goalies…. 😥 ). Guess I have to pay more attention to the games and take better notes….anyway, on to this week’s games.

In the early game Team Blair(less) welcomed the return of Ian G from the injured reserve list and the changes were dramatic. Both teams played a tight defensive game in the first period and went to the intermission tied at 1-1. But…in the 2nd, the floodgates burst and Team Blair(less) dominated, scoring 8 unanswered goals. Lots of fast ball movement, tight passing and precision ball placement……just F^%&^ wonderful for goaltender morale! In the 3rd, Team Dirka was able to shake off their disastrous 2nd period and scored 3 goals to mount a bit of a comeback, but Team Blair just bore down again and scored 3 answering goals to keep the goal spread at 8 – final score Team Blair(less) 12  – Team Dirka 4.

In the late game the odds were pretty clear going in – Team Lia should be 4+ goal favorite over a struggling Team Jacquie and the opening minutes seemed to back this up. Mark C stirred the crowd to a fever pitch (and got the doping team all hot and bothered getting their test kits ready) by scoring an unprecedented (for him) natural hat trick to create an early 3 goal lead. Then Dylan added a couple more and the expected Team Lia victory was inevitable….or not. Team Jacquie scored a couple and then another and finally a late period goal and the teams headed to the break with Team Lia up by only 1, 5-4. In the 2nd, some goals were exchanged and Team Lia had the extra marker exiting the 2nd period up 8-6. They might not beat the ProLine point spread but victory still seemed likely. But, in the 3rd, we learn (again) why we play the game. Both teams exchanged a couple goals with Team Jacquie getting a couple more to get close. Heading into the homestretch, Team Jacquie scores to get within 1, then again with about a minute to play to tie it up! Should they just run out the clock and escape with a tie….Hell NO! Heavy pressure at the Team Lia end and Ashmore gets the ball, and, while under heavy defensive pressure directs (what appears to be) an easy underhanded shot to the net – GOALLLLLLLL! Team Jacquie completes the comeback and is up by 1 with 12 seconds left – an extended ball control battle at the faceoff and time runs out for a spectacular come-from-behind win for Team Jacquie 12 over Team Lia 11. Fun game (for the winning team!), lots of scoring (Dylan with 4 goals – to be expected, but Mark C with 5 goals…Really???), lots of excitement…and ProLine ends up having to pay out on the long odds Team Jacquie victory!

Hopefully the reporting is more accurate this week and I didn’t miss noting anyone’s scoring highlights.

WEEK #4 RESULTS

In the first game, Team Lia hit the ground running, scoring 3 quick goals before Team Dirka knew what hit them. A blowout in the making?…or not. Team Dirka’s defense settled down and as time ran down in the period scored 1, then another and finally a 3rd goal was scored to tie the game. But…Team Lia quickly retaliated and the period ended with the Lias up by one – 4-3. In the 2nd Team Dirka scored to tie it up again but Team Lia again pulled ahead by 1. Again, Team Dirka clawed back and tied the score and quickly added another to pull ahead by one, exiting the 2nd period up 6-5. But the momentum changed again in the 3rd, Team Lia scored and then added 2 more while Shawn kept Team Dirka from adding any more markers. Final score Team Lia 8 – Team Dirka 6.

Second game had roster issues …again. As usual Team Blair was seriously undermanned – only 6 runners so they were able to convince the goalies to switch from their assigned teams and Big Matt V was convinced to play for them in the late game. Obviously none of these remedies were needed as Team Blair, with Matt V leading the way, scored early and often – up by 5 at the end of the first period. Team Jacquie scored a couple of goals to rattle Justin in the 2nd and added a couple more in the 3rd but, it was too little, too late as Team Blair cruised to an easy 11 – 4 victory.

A couple of roster changes, moved John Doxtator and added Sean Elmer to Team Jacquie as of next week’s game.

WEEK #3 RESULTS

The return of Justin, scourge of London Masters HL shooters! Obviously tired of abusing other goalie’s hearing with his booming shots of the rear boards, Justin has returned to his traditional spot between the pipes – damn – now I have to be more careful in goalie scheduling to keep the whining and complaints down to a reasonable roar. Anyway, last week, 1 goalie, this week 3! where is the happy (and workable) average.

First game started with tight defense and stellar goaltending – for awhile it looked like both teams would be held off the scoresheet for the entire period but Team Dirka scored late and then quickly added 2 more to end the period leading Team Jacquie 3-0. Team Dirka added 2 more in the 2nd and 1 more in the 3rd and it looked like Justin might be looking at one of the rarest of achievements – a shutout in lacrosse! But it was not to be, a questionable non call at the crease and a Team Jacquie player was able to retrieve a loose ball and stuff it by Justin to erase his shutout chances. Final score Team Dirka 6  – Team Jacquie 1.

In the 2nd game, Team Blair was Blair-less no more. Finally a decent turnout and Justin in net – should be a good for a much stronger performance. On the other hand Team Lia was missing their spiritual leader/owner and needed a short term recruit from Team Jacquie to provide some help on the bench. Goal scoring was fast and furious as Team Lia got to Justin early but Team Blair kept coming back to tie things up. Teams were tied  4 – 4 at the end of the 1st, and, despite some questionable score recording, teams were tied again at 8 – 8 at the end of 2 even though the scoreboard showed Team Blair ahead 10-6. Not sure how an 8-8 (or 10-6) score got reworked to 10-7 (math is hard?) but on with the 3rd. In the 3rd, Team Blair got a couple  and Team Lia was pushing hard. Justin returned to his 1st game form and was able to stop pretty well everything Team Lia threw at him. Dylan was able to score once but it was not enough – irregardless of the correct score Team Blair finished out the game with a victory – Team Blair 12 (or 10?) – Team Lia 11 (or 9). Whatever …I can pretty well guarantee that the actual goals again total probably won’t affect the final regular season standings or playoff seedings!

Overall a good week – much better turnouts. As always, team performance is highly dependent on player turnout.
