Lots of bodies, 1 close game, 1 not so close game….. not a bad evening of lacrosse, all things considered.

10 minutes to game time, only 1 runner in the Team Dirka dressing room, lots of runners for Team Blair – not looking good – but with a few last second arrivals the game was on. Lots of chances, not many goals. Scoring was scarce, whether due to winter rust or good defense or good goaltending – yeah, good goaltending, that’s the story we should go with. 1st period ended with Team Blair up 2-1 and the 2nd just extended the pattern with Team Blair up 4-2. In the 3rd the teams traded goals and with Team Dirka pressing, Team Blair added an insurance marker to up their lead to a comfortable 3 goals and looked to coast to an easy victory….but, Team Dirka finally figured out that more shots == more goals. LittleERK surprised the oddsmakers with a low shot that found the mesh and then, with a minute to play, Team Dirka scored again to close the margin to 1. Would Team Dirka be able to get 1 more shot/goal to tie the game….sadly (for Team Dirka) it was not to be – time ran out on with Team Blair on the winning side of a 6-5 score. Team Blair ends week #2 still undefeated with a 2-0 record. Good, tight game, lots of ball movement, good defense – fun to watch.

In the late game the benches were overflowing – Team Lia had almost everyone out including a last sec addition of BrentY to their roster – would the big bench help or hinder Team Lia in the quest to get their first win of 2017. …and Team Jacquie didn’t know what hit them last night – starting early with a quick goal, Team Lia just poured it on scoring 4 more before Team Jacquie was able to add a marker to the score sheet. 1st period ending Team Lia 5 – Team Jacquie 1. Not an insurmountable lead, but …difficult. And insurmountable it was, Team Jacquie was able to direct some shots towards Justin but he turned them all away and Team Lia added 2 goals in the 2nd, and 3 more in the 3rd to win the game in a 10-1 blowout.  Despite the score it looked like a pretty good game – lots of ball movement and seemingly quick changes to keep everyone in the game. In a surprise move, Team Lia’s newest acquisition, BrentY was suddenly traded to Team Jacquie for undisclosed financial considerations. Rumours are that salary cap issues were involved and that Team Lia desperately needed funds to replenish their “Princess” glitter stocks prior to any further games. Hopefully the addition of another shooter will help Team Jacquie break out of their scoring drought – not having to shoot against Justin next week will help as well.
