Two good games last night – 3 goal total differential and both game results in doubt late into the 3rd period – top notch LMHLL action on a hot May evening.

In the early game, Team Dirka scored quickly but Team Jacquie was able to tie it up soon after and most of the period was deadlocked with good chances at both ends and lots of running. As the period came to a close Team Jacquie was able to pop 2 quick goals and the period ended with Team Dirka on the wrong end of a 3-1 score. In the early 2nd, Team Jacquie kept up the pressure and scored 3 more quick goals and the game result seemed to be a sure thing. Team Dirka was able to score a couple goals through the period but they still ended up further behind at the end of the 2nd, down 6-3. In the 3rd it seemed to be all Team Dirka, scoring 5 goals in bursts of 3 and 2. Fortunately for Team Jacquie, they were able to respond with  3 goals to prevent too much Team Dirka momentum and eke out a close 9-8 victory to break their 3 game losing streak. Exciting game, in doubt right to the last seconds.

In the late game Team Blair got timely goals from its big shooters scoring 3 goals in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd and a single in the 3rd while Team Lia was only able to respond with 2, 1 and 2 goals to keep it close. Team Lia was able to exert some serious pressure late in the game but just couldn’t push the ball past Gord often enough to close the gap. Team Lia’s pressure was enough that Team Blair had to work on ball control/time management for the last 3 minutes of the game to prevent any last minute surprises. A very good game ended with a Team Blair 7-5 victory over a feisty Team Lia.

Team Blair remains undefeated in 2017 but has yet to face Justin in net – will be interesting to see if they can keep up their scoring stats next week. In the both games, turnout was pretty good for all teams – looks like we should be expecting 9-12 players per team on a consistent basis. Games are exceedingly fast (for Masters) and team balance looks to be pretty good for now.
