In the 1st game, Team Blair (missing their spiritual leader) answered the question of whether they could rebound from their first loss in no uncertain terms. 5 goals in the 1st, 3 more in the 2nd and 4 in the 3rd to win easily 12-4 over Team Bill. Team Bill was unable to consistently solve Gord and Team Blair’s Big 3 of Ian, Jeff and Matt scored 8 of the 12 goals. Hmmm…. 2 blowouts out of 18 games so far this season, both against 1 goalie…..better not travel down that road of inquiry, just put it down to random coincidence.
Second game was a game of momentum, Team Russ jumped out to an early lead, 5-2 at the end of the 1st period. Though Team Russ added another goal early in the 2nd, momentum switched and Team Juniors scored 6 straight, 3 in the 2nd and 3 more early in the 3rd to pull ahead. And then the momentum changed…again, Team Russ scored 1 on a penalty shot, another goal and then a 3rd to pull ahead 9-8. Team Juniors were able to score a final goal late but were unable to capitalize on an end of the game power play and the game ended in a 9 – 9 tie.
Entering the mid-season All-Star break, the fan balloting is now closed and, not surprisingly, there were no votes for any individual players, well, truthfully there were no votes …period – either we have no All-Star calibre players, no fans that are interested enough to do a write in ballot or it has something to do with our nonexistent social media policy and our inability to stir up any fan interest…Oh well! A week off and hopefully everyone can rest their injuries and get themselves motivated for the stretch run.
